HOSTis looking for an International Student Worker in Utrecht (m/f)

Our vision is to see students built into communities of disciples, transformed by the gospel, and impacting the university, the church and society for the glory of Christ. HOST is part of IFES Netherlands, which is part of IFES World. IFES World supports locally led student movements in over 170 different countries.

There are wonderful opportunities to welcome and connect with the many international students who live and study in Utrecht. As an International Student Worker, you are leading the project called Rooted.   Rooted is a project what wants to be a home for international students in Utrecht, to be a place where they can belong, through fellowship and meaningful contact with locals. Rooted Utrecht aims to give students an opportunity to hear about the good news of Jesus Christ and to grow in faith together. We do this by organising various kinds of events and projects: a student community house, a Bible study group with social activities, a place to study together, a Dinner project with Dutch host families, etc.

We are looking for someone to lead Rooted into its next phase, to expand our network, build our community and vision, and keep the different projects running., together with a (small) team of volunteers.

Rooted is a collaboration of Host and Singelkerk Utrecht.

The Singelkerk Utrecht is a church centred on Jesus Christ that seeks to honour and serve God, looks after each other and that longs to reach Utrecht residents with the gospel. Singelkerk is a member of the Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerken in the Netherlands ((one of the reformed denominations in the Netherlands).

Core responsibilities

  •  Lead the Rooted core team and build vision in a prayerful manner;
  • Work with and supervise the volunteers who manage the different Rooted project;
  • Coaching and build a sustainable team of student leaders;
  • Host/organise/coordinate events, including Bible studies;
  • Invest in the relationship of the Rooted project and the Singelkerk;
  • Pastoral chats with students, coaching and practical care;
  • Discipleship & outreach;
  • Preparing students to return home after their studies and build vision for an international network.

We are looking for someone…

  • With a passion for God, prayer, outreach, and discipleship;
  • Who wants to live out of Gods grace, follow Jesus and be a student of Gods Word;
  • With a heart for international students;
  • Who is culturally (and theologically) sensitive;
  • Who is relational and loves networking;
  • With leadership qualities that inspire, motivate, and enthuse young leaders;
  • Who is a good communicator;
  • With vision and perseverance;
  • With abilities to strategically develop Rooted;
  • Who is flexible, proactive, and accountable;
  • Who is willing to do MPD (fundraising).

Other requirements

  • BA/MA at University or Hogeschool or international equivalent;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Intercultural experience;
  • Theological knowledge is helpful;
  • Knowing Dutch is helpful;
  • Lives in Utrecht or is happy to move to Utrecht.

Appointment:

This will initially be a paid appointment of two days a week that is expected to grow if the fundraising results are sufficient. As a student worker you are primarily responsible for raising sufficient finances from within churches and your own circle of family, friends, and acquaintances. The appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension. You will receive a fixed salary in accordance with scale eight, and the employment conditions scheme of Host applies.
